Document the source and timeline
Give the discovery time, known source and the time the flow stopped, if known. Describe rooms above, below and beside the leak. If the shutoff is unsafe to reach, do not enter a hazardous area to operate it.
Check beyond the visible room
Water can affect adjoining assemblies and contents. Ask which surfaces will be measured and how inaccessible areas will be assessed. Ceiling damage, cabinetry and layered flooring can change access and material decisions.
Separate the trades in the quote
Confirm who repairs the pipe, who manages extraction and drying, and who restores finishes. Ask for approval before additional removal or repairs change the scope. Keep the plumber’s findings with the restoration record.
A useful question
Can restoration begin before the pipe is fixed?
A provider can explain what urgent mitigation is safe and appropriate while source repair is arranged. The work needs coordination so ongoing leakage does not undermine drying.
Sources and local resources
Official resources inform local context and preparation. They do not establish provider availability, an office or endorsement.
