Avoid spreading the affected area
Do not walk through wastewater or move contaminated belongings into clean rooms. Avoid using equipment that could distribute contamination. Tell the provider whether toilets, drains or several fixtures are involved and whether the source has been addressed.
Clarify the cleanup scope
Ask about containment, affected porous materials, cleaning, disposal and drying. Confirm who is responsible for plumbing or sewer repairs. Cleaning a surface does not by itself establish that a wall or floor assembly is suitable to keep.
Plan for reoccupancy
Ask how completion will be documented and whether specialist evaluation is needed for the circumstances. Occupancy decisions depend on the actual conditions and work performed. No page on this website can certify a property as safe.
A useful question
Is a drain repair the same as sewage cleanup?
No. A drain repair addresses the source. Cleanup, material handling, drying and repair of affected finishes may be separate work and should be described in the agreement.
Sources and local resources
Official resources inform local context and preparation. They do not establish provider availability, an office or endorsement.
